Forget Me Not
In
March of 2001, my husband of 55 years died after suffering from
Alzheimer's for ten agonizing years. Never in my fantasy of "
living happily ever after" did I picture myself strolling down the
grocery aisle debating whether my spouse would prefer Depends or
Mickey Mouse on the crotch or just plain Pull-Ups. It's as if
step-by-step the Alzheimer's patient is tiptoeing back to the
childhood.

"They claim writers suffer from
homesickness-that they're on a constant search for the place they
belong. I never expected to find mine on an island, nor that
Nature would involve me in her plots"
